Behind the Curtain with this Christian Wedding Photographer

Hi, I’m Emilee!

I’m so thrilled you’re here— like over-the-moon, happy-dance-in-my-chair kind of excited! My faith has been an enormous catalyst in shaping not just who I am, but my beliefs about marriage. From the minute I pick up my camera, it’s my hope to tell love stories in a meaningful way, inspiring people to cherish life, love, beauty, and the source of those things, God. I believe the world around us points to God’s eternal beauty, and that it’s my great joy as a Christian artist to echo His beauty, love, and truth in my own art.

(Except Probably, Maybe, Sorta It Isn’t?)

My faith is a really big deal to me.

When my faith took root, so did my beliefs about marriage— slowly, beautifully, and deeply.

My approach to wedding photography has been massively influenced by my faith. I’ve always grown up in the church, but it wasn’t until my 20s where I truly began to experience a heart change. The church I was raised in wasn’t too big into unpacking what you believed and didn’t encourage any sort of biblical literacy (a.k.a. knowing what the Bible says, identifying the main themes of Scripture, understanding the larger story of the Gospel, etc.) — so when I stepped on to a college campus for the first time and later entered corporate life, my Christian worldview began to shake.

I believe that the Bible is the inherent Word of God, and it’s the Christian’s compass for daily living.

However, after digging into the Bible, openly sharing my questions with Christian mentors, and honestly wrestling with my doubts, I finally came to a place of unshakeable peace, confidence, and hope— that in Jesus Christ, the God of Scripture, and the Maker of heaven and earth. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” (Psalm 19:1)

When I got married, the Gospel gave me new eyes to see marriage as both a gift from God and a picture of Christ’s love.

Timothy Keller once said, “Marriage is the Mac truck driving through our lives, revealing our flaws and humbling our reactions. And that is a good thing.” I couldn’t agree more. No relationship offers a closer, more personal look at human imperfections than marriage— or simultaneously provides the extraordinary experience of radical love, unconditional acceptance, and soul-deep security.

“There was something special about having a Christian photographer that gave me so much peace on my big day.”

Emilee is the most talented wedding photographer I have ever met. My bridesmaids and I couldn't stop gushing over how easy she made the process, how warm and personable she was, and how she worked that camera! Our venue wasn't a great photo opportunity, yet she still was able to bang out awesome, memorable photos. She traveled all the way to Tennessee for our wedding, and 10/10 I would recommend Emilee to anyone looking for a Nashville wedding photographer, Upstate New York wedding photographer, or anywhere else she will travel to! You would be lucky to book her!

MY PHILOSOPHY

I believe that marriage points to the Gospel and demonstrates the redemptive love of Jesus Christ.

Jesus willingly gave Himself up for us by going to the cross, paying the debt for our sins, and paving a way for us to be united with Him. He died to His own interests, looking to our own needs, and painted a picture of sacrificial love in action. The Gospel shows that, while we are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, we at the very same time are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.

The experience of marriage will unveil the beauty and depths of the Gospel.

The gospel can fill our hearts with God’s love so that we can handle it when our spouse fails to love us as he or she should, and it frees us to see our spouse’s sins and flaws to the bottom— yet still love and accept them fully. I believe that the essence of marriage is that it’s a covenant, a commitment, a promise of future love. And while passion may lead you to make a wedding promise, I believe it’s the promise itself that makes your love wiser, richer, and deeper over the years.

The created universe is all about glory. The deepest longing of the human heart and the deepest meaning of heaven and earth are summed up in this: the glory of God. The universe was made to show it, and we were made to see it and savor it.

— John Piper

MY VISION

Bride and groom embracing in front of a tall waterfall during outdoor wedding portraits.

I believe that God is self-existent, infinite, and eternal, and that the evidence of Him is all around us.

His divine fingerprints are imprinted in every trace of the universe— in the regularity of nature, the vastness of the cosmos, the miracle of human life. God announces His majesty in the thundering of a waterfall, paints His glories in the contours of the Grand Canyon, and etches His mystery in the brilliance of the universe. He is who I aspire to exalt in every area of my life, most of all my photography.

As a Christian wedding photographer, my ultimate goal is to glorify the one true Creator.

My faith shapes not only my desire to celebrate love stories in a way that reflects God’s goodness, but it’s this same conviction that guides what I cannot create as well— including content that demeans anyone, beautifies violence, promotes racism, or celebrates any type of marriage outside of God’s design for this sacred institution, including a same-sex or polyamorous wedding. I know that many people look at this differently, but to me, God defines what is beautiful, and I want my art to reflect that, no matter who’s asking for the photography service!

“‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ This is a profound mystery— but I am talking about Christ and the church.”

Ephesians 5:31-32

Psst— did you know I travel?!

I’ve photographed love stories all over the country!

From free-spirited elopements on the shores of Lake Tahoe, to black-tie weddings in the mountains of North Carolina, to intimate elopements in the heart of New York City, my faith has connected me with amazing couples from all over the world who value working with a Christian wedding photographer! Creating visual narratives in such unique, magical locations is a joy beyond comparison— and while I take on fewer travel gigs than I once did (#MomLife), I still actively travel for weddings and elopements! Reach out and inquire about your faith-based wedding today!

“Emilee was there supporting me with hugs, prayers, and friendship from the very beginning.”

“Emilee is one of the kindest, most loving, and gentle souls that I have ever met. My wedding was very nearly a disaster. There were bags stolen, the venue was a scam, flights cancelled, rock slides, you name it. She is flexible, reassuring, and will be your wedding therapist to cry to when things (because something inevitably will) go wrong. She is like a wedding doula lol! I contacted and chose to hire Emilee because she is a Christian, like me, and she and I share the same ideals. I am so glad that I did. I look at my wedding photos all the time when I get stressed or sad and they are like a happy, beautiful security blanket for me. Emilee gave me that, and I am forever grateful! I am a very awkward person behind the camera. I don't take many selfies and am very in the moment which is good for normal life, but not for photos. I look weird in almost every photo I'm in and I was so worried that would happen with my engagement/wedding photos but Emilee is so good at making you feel calm, relaxed, and happy that the smiles are genuine, the laughs are genuine, and the candid pictures are truly candid. You can't photoshop joy my friends. That comes from actually having fun and being comfortable and Emilee knows that! She is a great editor, but even she can't manufacture a good belly laugh between you and your man. Do yourself a favor and hire Emilee. If you are like me, you will end up with fantastic memories, magnificent photos, and a lifelong friend.”

Faith-Forward in How I Create and How I Spend

Did you know I donate a portion of all my proceeds?

As a Mama to three littles, you can only imagine how near and dear motherhood is to my heart. That is why I donate a portion of all my proceeds to Mosaic of the Southern Tier, my local pregnancy center! They are a faith-based nonprofit committed to supporting women and families experiencing an unplanned pregnancy and provide free pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, parenting programs, and material assistance. Ultimately, they exist to equip mothers with evidence-based, life-affirming information as they navigate an unexpected pregnancy in a safe, loving, nonjudgmental environment.

Are you about this, too?! Then let’s chat!

“Emilee is an absolute DREAM! She captured some of the most incredible photos of us I've ever seen.”

Not only did she help us out SO MUCH with the process of posing well (because we're awkward, haha) she also brought portable music to help us loosen up. She was kind, energetic, fun, extremely professional, and she became an instant friend. The photos that she delivered to us were such an incredible representation of us as a couple and she encourages sweet, authentic intimacy in a way that is reflected through her camera. I seriously can't stop looking at my photos! She has kept God at the foundation of her business, and it is clear that He is continuing to bless her work and faithfulness. Emilee's vision for photos is such a natural gift and she enjoys doing it which is such a joy to be around. I highly, highly recommend Emilee for any and all photos! She is worth every bit of the investment. I will definitely be working with her again. :)
