The biggest reason couples fall in love with Inn at Taughannock Falls is because it truly feels tranquil and tucked away from everything else. The property sits right along Cayuga Lake and is surrounded by rolling hills, greenery, waterfalls, and some of the prettiest scenery Upstate New York has to offer. It’s especially meaningful for couples connected to Cornell University or Ithaca College since the venue is located just outside Ithaca, so naturally a lot of couples end up bringing friends, classmates, and family back to the Finger Lakes for the weekend!
When I say I love this venue, I absolutely mean it! The property actually has several different venue spaces depending on guest count, atmosphere, and overall wedding vision. Which is part of why weddings here never feel repetitive!
Some couples want a huge outdoor wedding weekend with a tent and packed dance floors, while others want something intimate and dinner-party inspired. The venue really accommodates both so beautifully.
Enchantment Venue
The Enchantment space is definitely the largest and most immersive wedding venue on the property. This is the space couples usually picture when they think of those big luxury outdoor Finger Lakes weddings with sailcloth tents, fireplaces, lakeside cocktail hours, and huge receptions under the stars.
The entire venue overlooks Cayuga Lake and includes over 12,000 square feet of blue stone patio space, customizable lighting throughout the gardens, and a grand open-air reception tent that can accommodate up to 300 guests.
At night, this area completely transforms. ✨ Between the lantern lighting, the cozy stone fireplaces, lake views, and scenic atmosphere, receptions here feel incredibly lively without losing that relaxed Finger Lakes energy.
As a photographer, I also love how multi-layered the space feels. Guests move throughout the property naturally instead of staying seated all night, which creates such a fun atmosphere during cocktail hour and the reception!

The room originally served as the formal dining room inside the mansion back in the 1800s, and it still carries that old-world, historic atmosphere throughout the space. Between the softer lighting, crystal details, antique character, and intimate layout, the entire room feels really warm and elegant. I think this space works especially well for couples wanting a more intimate dinner-party style wedding experience instead of a massive reception.

The Victorian Inn feels the most classic and historic out of all the venue spaces on the property. Originally built in 1873, the mansion has this really timeless atmosphere that feels totally different from the spacious feel of Enchantment.
The entire area feels very Gatsby-inspired. Between the window views of the lake, vintage architecture, piano-bar energy, and charming details throughout the rooms, the venue naturally leans more romantic and a little dramatic.
This space works beautifully for medium-sized weddings or couples wanting more of an indoor celebration while still keeping the Finger Lakes scenery surrounding the property.

Some of My Favorite Things I've Seen Couples Do
One of my favorite things about photographing weddings at Inn at Taughannock Falls is that no two celebrations ever feel the same. Even after photographing so many weddings here, I still find myself excited to see how each couple will make the space their own. I’ve seen couples totally transform the venue with checkerboard dance floors, specialty lounge rentals, monogrammed drink toppers, ice sculptures, string ensembles, live bands, saxophonists, and even a mobile cigar lounge. Some couples lean into the estate’s historic charm and create an elegant, black-tie atmosphere, while others embrace the laid-back Finger Lakes setting with a celebration that feels more like a weekend gathering with their favorite people. The versatility of the venue is honestly one of the things I love most about it—there’s so much room for couples to create a wedding that feels genuinely reflective of who they are.
What always stands out to me most, though, are the personal touches and experiences that make each wedding feel completely unique. Over the years, I’ve photographed fireworks lighting up the sky over Cayuga Lake, a double rainbow appearing after a summer storm, dogs walking down the aisle, couples seeing their fully designed reception space for the first time, and private last dances that closed out the evening long after guests had left. Spring Weddings at Inn at Taughannock Falls
Spring weddings here feel really fresh and alive. The greenery starts coming back, the waterfalls are usually flowing heavily, and the entire property feels extra vibrant after winter. This is such a pretty time of year for couples wanting a more garden-inspired atmosphere.
Summer Weddings at Inn at Taughannock Falls
Summer weddings are a full-send into the Finger Lakes experience. Guests are outside all weekend, cocktail hours stretch later into the evening, and everyone’s usually making a trip out of wineries, hiking trails, or lake activities while they’re in town.
That being said… the humidity here can absolutely humble everyone LOL. I’ve photographed ceremonies where couples were discreetly wiping humidity off their faces mid-ceremony. Having touch-up items nearby and building flexibility into the timeline makes a HUGE difference.
Summer weather here also changes FAST. I’ve seen sunny skies turn into complete rainstorms and then somehow become a double rainbow later that evening. Honestly, some of my favorite galleries from this venue happened on days that started with everyone panicking over the forecast. 😂😂
Fall Weddings at Inn at Taughannock Falls
Fall is probably one of the most popular seasons for an Inn at Taughannock Falls wedding, and once you see the Finger Lakes in peak foliage season, it makes total sense why! The hills surrounding Cayuga Lake turn all different shades of orange, gold, and deep red, and the entire area feels incredibly cinematic that time of year.
Rainy Wedding Days at Inn at Taughannock Falls
If you’re getting married in Upstate New York, I think the best mindset is just accepting that the weather is going to do whatever it wants. And weirdly enough? Some of the rainiest wedding days here ended up becoming some of my absolute favorite galleries. The fog, mist, darker skies, and waterfalls create SUCH a cool atmosphere in photos.
My biggest advice is simply to prepare for changing weather instead of fearing it. Umbrellas, backup options, and flexible timelines usually lead to the best experience overall.

One thing I always notice at Inn at Taughannock Falls weddings is how different the energy feels depending on where couples choose to get ready. Some spaces feel bright and relaxed while others create a moodier and more editorial look, which gives couples a lot of wiggle room depending on the overall vibe they want their wedding morning to have.
And from a photography perspective, the getting ready location really does make a difference throughout the gallery—especially when it comes to lighting, space, and how calm the morning feels once everyone starts arriving.
Falls Suite
The Falls Suite is probably my favorite getting ready location on the property. It’s super bright, open, and gets SUCH good natural light throughout the morning. This makes a HUGE difference in photos! The outdoor deck area is also perfect for bridesmaid photos, private moments before the ceremony, or first looks with parents. I’ve photographed some really gorgeous, emotional moments out there over the years!
The Lounge
The Lounge upstairs in the Main Inn has a unique feel compared to the Falls Suite. It’s moodier, cozier, and works especially well for couples wanting something that feels a little more vintage. The space was also redesigned recently with a wallpaper refresh, so if you’ve looked at older Inn at Taughannock Falls weddings online, the Lounge may look different now compared to older galleries.
Hillside Residence / Le Grande Suite
If you have a larger bridal party or just want more room to spread out during the morning, the Hillside Residence is SUCH a good option.This space feels a little more private, not to mention spacious, compared to the Main Inn, and there’s plenty of room for hair, makeup, detail photos, and people moving around without everything feeling cramped. The blue house exterior also photographs so well throughout the day.

While the waterfalls and lake views usually steal the spotlight, some of my favorite photos from a wedding day are actually the little details captured throughout the property. Over the years, I’ve found so many beautiful spots at Inn at Taughannock Falls that help elevate detail photos and make them feel connected to the overall atmosphere of the day. 😌
The Falls Suite is by far one of my favorite places for photographing dresses because of the beautiful natural light that pours into the space! For couples getting ready in Le Grande Suite, I love incorporating the room’s architecture and elegant interiors into the detail images. The Lounge offers a moodier, more editorial feel, while the historic bar inside the Victorian Inn creates such a vintage backdrop for dresses and other wedding details.
What I love most is that each space brings something completely different to the gallery. Whether it's a dress hanging in front of a bright window, a veil draped across antique furnishings, or invitations styled in one of the mansion's historic rooms, these locations help tell a more complete story of the wedding day.

Couples who choose to get married at Inn at Taughannock Falls have the option of several ceremony locations throughout the property that all feel totally different from each other. Some lean more lakeside and open, others feel tucked into nature, and some create a more dramatic backdrop depending on the overall atmosphere couples want for the day.
Lakeside Ceremony Space
Okay… this space is probably my personal favorite ceremony setup at the entire venue. 🥹 Between the Cayuga Lake views, rolling hills, and wide open sky, the entire ceremony space somehow feels even more breathtaking in person. I’ve photographed ceremonies here with dramatic storm clouds, soft overcast weather, and even DOUBLE rainbows appearing mid-ceremony! 🌈🥹✨ Somehow this ceremony location always ends up feeling equal parts cinematic and peaceful at the same time!
Small Falls Ceremony Location
For couples wanting something that feels especially connected to the Finger Lakes landscape, the Small Falls ceremony location is SUCH a cool option. The sound of the water nearby softens the atmosphere, and it creates some really unique ceremony photos afterward, too, as guests make the trek back towards the Inn.
Eagle Patio
The Eagle Patio works especially well for couples planning a smaller or more intimate wedding. The space feels simple and relaxed while still keeping the lake views and scenery surrounding the property front and center!
Staircase Ceremony Setup
The staircase ceremony setup always feels dramatic in the best way, especially once florals are incorporated throughout the stairs and surrounding space, and it puts a spotlight on the charm of the Inn. This ceremony spot works especially well for couples wanting something that feels a little more architectural while still keeping the surrounding scenery!

The Best Portrait Locations at the Inn at Taughannock Falls
One thing I LOVE about photographing weddings at Inn at Taughannock Falls is that we can get SO much variety in a gallery without spending the entire wedding day driving around. Every direction somehow gives us a breathtaking, one-of-a-kind backdrop.
Taughannock Falls
If you want the wow-factor portrait location, this is it! Taughannock Falls is one of those places that people don’t fully understand until they see it in person. The waterfall has a 215-foot drop and absolutely towers over everything around it. The walk itself is also surprisingly manageable and usually takes around 20 minutes depending on pace!
Falls Overlook
The Falls Overlook is one of those spots that always gets an immediate reaction the second couples near the overlook. And the best part is that it's super accessible. It’s only about a five-minute drive from the Inn and definitely worth adding into the timeline if you want those massive vista views without committing to a full-on hike.
Taughannock Point Park
If you’ve ever dreamed of those classic lakeside wedding photos, Taughannock Point Park is SUCH a good option! Located just across the street from the Inn, this spot gives you access to the shoreline of Cayuga Lake, giant trees, sprawling lawns, and wide-open views. I love bringing couples here because the scenery feels simple and beautiful!
Small Falls
The sound of the water, surrounding greenery, and tucked-away atmosphere make the whole area feel like an oasis without needing to hike far from the venue itself. And this is one of the few spots on the property where you can still catch little pockets of evening light later in the day after the sun starts disappearing behind the hills!
Ginkgo Tree, Garden Pathways & Stone Walls
Honestly, some of my favorite portraits here happen in the nooks and crannies around the property! The garden pathways, stone walls, ginkgo tree, and wrought-iron fence areas have added so much texture and variety to my couple’s galleries—without needing anything too elaborate!
These little in-between locations are usually where couples can sneak away for a few moments and find a relaxing pocket of the day, which always leads to some of my favorite candid moments.
One thing couples usually don’t realize until wedding day is that golden hour basically disappears here because the sun drops behind the hills SO quickly. I always recommend building portrait time a little earlier into the timeline because of that!

One thing that makes an Inn at Taughannock Falls wedding feel SO different from a lot of traditional wedding venues is that guests can 100% unwind at the property for the entire weekend—instead of constantly driving back and forth between hotels, venues, and events.
The accommodations throughout the estate all have really different atmospheres, too, which gives guests a lot of flexibility depending on the type of experience they want during the weekend. Some spaces feel historic and romantic while others are more modern and relaxed.
Victorian Inn Accommodations
The Victorian Inn accommodations feel the most historic and old-world out of all the lodging options on the property. The mansion itself dates back to 1873, and staying there feels a little like stepping into another era. ✨
Couples and guests should know that the Victorian Inn intentionally keeps a quieter, more unplugged atmosphere. Most rooms don’t include televisions, refrigerators, or microwaves in order to preserve the traditional feel of the property. Honestly though, I think that slower pace is part of what makes staying here feel really special.
The second-floor lounge is also SUCH a cozy space throughout wedding weekends. 🤍 Guests can sit overlooking Cayuga Lake, play chess or backgammon, drink Finger Lakes wine, or just relax together between events!
Hillside Residence (including Le Grande Suite)
The Hillside Residence feels completely different from the Victorian Inn and it works SO well for wedding parties or families wanting a more private, social atmosphere throughout the weekend.
The house is over 4,000 square feet and includes six bedrooms, a huge shared living space, a screened porch, modern kitchen, breakfast area, wet bar, and even a full-size Brunswick pool table.
This is SUCH a fun getting ready location for larger wedding parties because there’s enough space for everyone to spread out without the morning feeling chaotic or overstimulating. The yard and pergola area overlooking the pond also make really sweet gathering spaces throughout the weekend! And from a photography perspective, the Hillside Residence photographs beautifully because of how much natural light comes into the home.
Lakeview Accommodations
The Lakeview rooms are probably the best option for guests wanting a more modern hotel-style stay while still keeping the Finger Lakes atmosphere. Each room includes a furnished balcony overlooking Cayuga Lake, and some rooms also include deep soaking jetted tubs which feel PERFECT after a long wedding day LOL. Compared to the Victorian Inn, these rooms lean much more modern and include amenities like:
televisions
mini-fridges
microwaves
Keurigs
air conditioning
on-site laundry access
The location is also just a short walk from the main Inn and wedding spaces, which makes things really convenient for guests throughout the weekend.
Parkview Accommodations (Hint: Pet Friendly)
The Parkview rooms feel the most tucked into nature out of all the accommodations on the property. Located directly beside the woods and near Gorge Trail, the whole area feels quiet and really connected to the surrounding landscape.
These rooms are especially great for couples including pets in their wedding weekend because the Parkview accommodations are pet friendly! 🥹 And while the setting feels a little more outdoorsy and secluded, guests still get modern amenities like air conditioning and deep soaking tubs, which gives the best of both worlds.
Room Block Information
Inn at Taughannock Falls currently offers 24 guest rooms across four different accommodation buildings with sixteen different room types throughout the estate.
I really like that couples can create room blocks directly on-site, which makes the entire wedding weekend feel much more connected for guests and family members. Instead of everyone scattering to different hotels after the reception, people naturally keep gathering throughout the property all weekend long. The venue team can also help coordinate additional room blocks nearby if couples need accommodations beyond the rooms available on the estate itself!
Things Couples Should Know Before Booking Inn at Taughannock Falls
Something I always recommend couples ask about during the planning process is how portrait access works depending on which event space is reserved on the property. Certain locations throughout the venue can have different photography access guidelines depending on the wedding setup booked, so it’s helpful to clarify those details ahead of time!
Another thing to know is that parts of the Main Inn can still remain open to restaurant guests throughout the day, so there may occasionally be a little extra foot traffic in certain areas. Personally, this has never been a major issue for me as a photographer because I’m constantly editing distractions out anyway, but I do think it’s helpful for couples to know ahead of time while planning timelines and setting expectations! There can also occasionally be two weddings happening on-site at once, depending on which areas are reserved.
