Behind the Curtain with your Christian Wedding Photographer
Hi! I’m Emilee, and I’m so happy you’re here right now – and maaaay or may not be jumping through the screen to give you a big bear hug right now!
I’ve been at photography ever since my senior year in high school and, after giving corporate life a shot, decided to transition back to my roots – those creative, entrepreneurial, “carpe diem” dreams of mine. Though it wasn’t until I married to my red-headed honey, Jon, that I truly uncovered my deep-rooted passion for photography.
Hi, I’m Emilee!
“‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ This is a profound mystery— but I am talking about Christ and the church.”
-Ephesians 5:31-32
My faith is a really big deal to me…
Spoiler Alert (Except Probably, Maybe, Sorta It’s Not?) Faith Matters to me.
My approach to wedding photography has been massively influenced by my faith. I grew up in the church, but it wasn’t until my 20s where I truly began to experience a heart change. The church I was raised in wasn’t too big into unpacking what you believed, or having any sort of biblical literacy (a.k.a. A loose handle on what the Bible says, identifying the main themes of Scripture, or understanding the larger story of the Gospel) — so when I stepped on to a secular college campus for the first time, and later into corporate life, my Christian worldview began to shake.
I believe that the Bible is God’s Word, and that it is the Christian’s compass for daily living.
After digging into the Bible, openly sharing my questions with Christian mentors, and honestly wrestling with my doubts, I finally came to a place of peace, confidence, and hope— that in Jesus Christ, the God of Scripture, and the Maker of heaven and earth. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” (Psalm 19:1)
When I got married, the Gospel gave me new eyes to see marriage as both a gift from God and a picture of Christ’s love.
Timothy Keller once said, “Marriage is the Mac truck driving through our lives, revealing our flaws and humbling our reactions. And that is a good thing.” I couldn’t agree more. No relationship offers a closer, more personal look at human imperfections than marriage— or simultaneously provides the extraordinary experience of radical love, unconditional acceptance, and soul-deep security.

“Emilee was there supporting me with hugs, prayers, and friendship from the very beginning.”
“Emilee is one of the kindest, most loving, and gentle souls that I have ever met. My wedding was very nearly a disaster. There were bags stolen, the venue was a scam, flights cancelled, rock slides, you name it. She is flexible, reassuring, and will be your wedding therapist to cry to when things (because something inevitably will) go wrong. She is like a wedding doula lol! I contacted and chose to hire Emilee because she is a Christian, like me, and she and I share the same ideals. I am so glad that I did. I look at my wedding photos all the time when I get stressed or sad and they are like a happy, beautiful security blanket for me. Emilee gave me that, and I am forever grateful! I am a very awkward person behind the camera. I don't take many selfies and am very in the moment which is good for normal life, but not for photos. I look weird in almost every photo I'm in and I was so worried that would happen with my engagement/wedding photos but Emilee is so good at making you feel calm, relaxed, and happy that the smiles are genuine, the laughs are genuine, and the candid pictures are truly candid. You can't photoshop joy my friends. That comes from actually having fun and being comfortable and Emilee knows that! She is a great editor, but even she can't manufacture a good belly laugh between you and your man. Do yourself a favor and hire Emilee. If you are like me, you will end up with fantastic memories, magnificent photos, and a lifelong friend.”

MY PHILOSOPHY
Jesus willingly gave Himself up for us by going to the cross, paying the debt for our sins, and paving a way for us to be united with Him. He died to His own interests, looking to our own needs, and painted a picture of sacrificial love in action. The Gospel shows that, while we are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, we at the very same time are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.
I believe that marriage points to the Gospel and demonstrates the redemptive love of Jesus Christ.
It can fill our hearts with God’s love so that we can handle it when our spouse fails to love us as he or she should, and it frees us to see our spouse’s sins and flaws to the bottom – and yet still love and accept our spouse fully. I believe that the essence of marriage is that it’s a covenant, a commitment, a promise of future love. And while passion may lead you to make a wedding promise, I believe it’s the promise itself that makes your love wiser, richer, and deeper over the years.
“We love because he first loved us.”
-1 John 4:19
The experience of marriage will unveil the beauty and depths of the Gospel.

MY CHRISTIAN VISION
As a Christian wedding photographer, my ultimate goal in life is to glorify the one true Creator.
God— the One who paints His glories in the contours of the Grand Canyon, announces His mystery in the brilliance of the universe, and etches His majesty in the vastness of the night sky— is who I aspire to exalt in every area of my life, especially my photography. I believe that God’s beauty is everywhere, and I desire to magnify His goodness in my artwork!
“It’s as if the stars and the skies are saying simply by their being, ‘Don’t stay too long staring at us: look at Him. We are but creatures, He is the Creator. We are but lights, He is the Light. We are beautiful, but He is Beauty.’” (Melvin Tinker)
God is self-existent, infinite, and eternal, and the evidence of Him is all around us…
I believe that God’s divine fingerprints are imprinted in every trace of the universe— in the regularity of nature, the vastness of the cosmos, the miracle of human life. As John Piper so expertly put it: “The created universe is all about glory. The deepest longing of the human heart and the deepest meaning of heaven and earth are summed up in this: the glory of God. The universe was made to show it, and we were made to see it and savour it.”
As a Christian wedding photographer, my ultimate goal in life is to glorify the one true Creator.
My Christian faith shapes not only my desire to celebrate love stories in a way that reflects God’s good design, depicting His beauty, love, and truth. But it’s this same conviction that guides what I cannot create as well— including content that demeans anyone, beautifies violence, promotes racism, or celebrates any type of marriage outside of God’s design for this sacred institution, including a same-sex or polyamorous wedding.
I know that many people look at this differently, but for me, God defines what is pure, sacred, and beautiful, and I want my art to honor the ultimate Artist— God!
Ahem, did you know I travel?!
I’ve photographed love stories all over the country for couples who value working with a Christian Wedding Photographer!
From free-spirited elopements on the shores of Lake Tahoe, to black-tie weddings in the mountains of North Carolina, to intimate elopements in the heart of New York City, my faith has connected me with amazing couples from all over the world! Creating visual narratives for couples in such unique, magical locations is a joy beyond comparison— and while I take on fewer travel gigs than I once did (#MomLife), I still actively travel for weddings and elopements!
